This Week's Spelling Words
This is an interesting video for parents and teachers.  As I watched it, I saw the faces of almost all of the children in this year's class.  If you have time to watch it, let me know which animal you think your child is most like. I am curious to find out if we see him/her the same way.  Thanks, Lisa S.
Happy April
Ms. B's Space
Hello parents of Mrs. Sawdy's first grade class! My name is Melissa Bitter, and I am a senior at Flody E. Kellam High School participating in the Virginia Teachers for Tomorrow program. I am excited to be spending the next couple of weeks interning in the classroom and learning as much as I can about teaching from Mrs. Sawdy and your children!  I have studied Japanese all through high school and will be attending ODU in the fall majoring in Asian Studies and Japanese. I plan to teach Japanese or English as a second language after I graduate.  I hope that I can share some of my knowledge of the language and culture of Japan with your children.

Last week I began teaching the numbers 1-10 to the students! It went really well and they seem to be excited about learning another language. I plan to teach them how to write their names, the days of the week and  even origami!

If you want to start exposing your child to the Japanese culture at home,  or even learn a little about it yourself here is a great kid friendly site! ~Kids Web Japan~

Ms. B's Trivia Question of the Week!
~ Once a week I will post trivia questions or tasks dealing with something I have taught the students. The students can send me the answer via email at melbitter23@hotmail.com, or on a scrap sheet of paper via their homework pouch. Each question will have a money value and the student can earn up to 5 cents a week toward their banks! How exciting! ~ ^_^ Good Luck!

Questions:

1) What is the capital of Japan? (worth 1 cent)

2) What is 1-5 in Japanese? (worth 2 cents)

3) What part of the world is Japan in? (worth 3 cents)
